What to know: Midland will celebrate Independence Day on Saturday, July 4, with a full day of patriotic events, including a public reading of the Declaration of Independence, the 63rd Annual Children’s Sidewalk Parade, and the annual Star-Spangled Salute at downtown’s Centennial Park and the Bush Convention Center with food, drinks, kids’ activities, live music, cooling areas, and fireworks.

The big picture:

  • Public Reading of the Declaration of Independence: Citizens and immigrants will gather to read America’s founding document together. This event is hosted by the Nehemiah220 Ministries.
    • Time: 9–10 a.m.
    • Location: 404 N. Colorado St.
  • 63rd Annual Children’s Sidewalk Parade: Day-of registration begins at 9 a.m., followed by the parade at 10 a.m. Children may decorate wagons, tricycles, bicycles, strollers, and Power Wheels in red, white, and blue. Each child receives a ribbon and flag while supplies last.
    • Time: Registration at 9 a.m.; parade at 10 a.m.
    • Location: Public parking lot off E. Texas Ave. and Baird, across from Midland Municipal Court
  • Food Court: Local vendors will sell food and treats, including funnel cakes, popcorn, BBQ, snow cones, and more. Most vendors accept credit cards, but cash is recommended.
    • Time: 5–11 p.m.
    • Location: Centennial Park area
  • Beer Garden: Adults 21 and older can visit the Beer Garden near Texas Avenue and Colorado in the Food Court. IDs are required for wristbands, and outside alcohol is not allowed.
    • Time: 5–10 p.m.; last call at 9:30 p.m.
    • Location: Centennial Park area
  • Fun Zone: Free games and activities for kids of all ages will be available inside the Bush Convention Center.
    • Time: 7–9 p.m.
    • Location: Bush Convention Center
  • Cool Zone: Families can cool off inside the Bush Convention Center during the evening celebration.
    • Time: 7–9 p.m.

  • Concert: Dust Bowl Trio, Burn Warning, and Funk Federation will perform free concerts on the lawn. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets.
    • Time: 7–10 p.m.
    • Location: Centennial Park
  • Fireworks: The night ends with fireworks launched from the roof of the Bush Convention Center. The show is expected to last about 10 minutes.
    • Time: Approximately 10 p.m.
    • Location: Centennial Park

Go deeper: Centennial Park will be closed from noon to 5 p.m. for setup. A clear bag policy will be enforced, and prohibited items include coolers, pets, bicycles, scooters, skateboards, smoking and vaping devices, glass containers, balloons, shade tents, canopies, and large umbrellas that block views.
