What happened: Greenwood track and field closed the season at the UIL 4A State Championships in Austin with senior Dylan Payton earning a bronze medal in the boys’ 300-meter hurdles with a time of 37.27. Payton capped his high school career with multiple school records and three straight appearances at the UIL State Meet in the event.

Greenwood Athletics celebrated the performance online, calling it “a legendary way to close the book on one of the greatest athletic careers in Greenwood history.”

Go deeper: Payton also placed fifth in the boys’ long jump with a leap of 22-6.5. The boys’ 4×400 relay team of Payton, Aaron Carrillo, Kasen Brooks, and Andrick Rodriguez finished eighth in the state with a time of 3:19.52. On the girls’ side, Greenwood’s 4×200 relay team finished ninth in the state with a time of 1:45.61.
