New nonprofit helps women build community in Midland
What happened: Blueprint for Kindness, a new Midland nonprofit founded by local architect Erin Wallander, held its first major fundraiser on April 24 at Green Acres Mini Golf. The “Golf and Gowns” event brought together more than 140 attendees for an afternoon of mini golf, shopping, games, and community connection while raising funds for Fix West Texas and First Tee of West Texas.
The big picture: Erin Wallander founded Blueprint for Kindness after noticing how difficult it can be for women in Midland, especially newcomers, to build meaningful connections. She wanted to create events that foster genuine community while supporting local causes.
“I thought if I started Blueprint for Kindness, it’d be a way for this,” Wallander said, gesturing to the fellowship happening around her at the event. “I want people to feel like they have a home in Midland.”
Guests enjoyed mini golf in formal attire while also shopping and playing games. Businesses from across Midland participated, including On The Whiskey Wagon, West Texas Mahjong, Birdie Box, Kendra Scott, and several local boutiques. Attendees were welcomed with a complimentary champagne and had opportunities to compete for trophies recognizing best-dressed, best score, worst score, and other prizes.
Go deeper: Wallander noted that animal care is a prominent focus of Blueprint for Kindness. Fix West Texas provides affordable spay-and-neuter services, preventive care, and adoption support to improve the quality of life for pets and families throughout the region. First Tee of West Texas uses the game of golf to teach life skills such as integrity, respect, and confidence to youth in the community.
