What to know: Midland’s swimming season is winding down, with a reduced pool schedule taking effect this week. The city is now operating only one pool each day, alternating between Washington Aquatic Center and Doug Russell Aquatic Center through closing on Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 7.

After this week, both pools will also be closed on weekdays, though splash pads will remain available on select days. Families should check the rotation before heading out to make sure their preferred location is open.

Washington Aquatic Center will close for the season Sunday, Sept. 6. Doug Russell Aquatic Center will host the city’s final pool day on Labor Day.

The big picture: Admission is $5 per person, with children under 2 getting in free. Both pools keep their regular hours on the days they are open: noon–3 p.m. and 4–7 p.m. on weekdays (only available through Friday, Aug. 14) and Saturdays, and 1–4 p.m. and 5–8 p.m. on Sundays.

The XTO Dennis the Menace Splash Pad continues its usual schedule through Sept. 7, operating from 10 a.m.–9 p.m. daily except Thursdays. The H-E-B Splash Pad at the Rockhounds Stadium will operate on a reduced schedule throughout August and early September, with its final day of the season Sept. 5.
