What happened: Rain finally fell across Midland on Tuesday, with some areas receiving more than half an inch. The National Weather Service recorded 0.30 inches at Midland International Airport, bringing the official year-to-date rainfall total to 7.32 inches.

Rainfall varied across the area. Local weather stations recorded 0.58 inches north of Loop 250, 0.42 inches near Hogan Park, and 0.71 inches both west of the Loop and south of Interstate 20. The storm largely missed Gardendale and north Odessa, while Greenwood received about 0.36 inches.

What’s next: More rain remains possible this week, although Midland sits east of the area currently facing the greatest threat for heavy rainfall. The National Weather Service Midland/Odessa says southeast New Mexico and far West Texas have the greatest potential for heavy rainfall and flash flooding.
