What to watch: Love Midland‘s third annual City-Wide Volunteer Day is Saturday, Oct. 3, bringing Midlanders together for dozens of service projects at schools, nonprofits, and community spaces across the city. The day kicks off from 8 to 10 a.m. at Astound Broadband Stadium, with most service projects running from 10 a.m. to noon across town.

The big picture: Love Midland is a community nonprofit that connects volunteers with organizations already working in Midland. Its annual Serve Day brings volunteers across the city together for one morning to tackle projects identified by those community partners. This year, Love Midland is lining up more than 70 projects and hopes to bring in more than 1,100 volunteers.

Volunteers can choose a project based on the type of work, time commitment, participant age, location, and more.

Saturday Schedule

8–10 a.m. — Stadium kickoff
Start the morning with free breakfast from 7 Brew and HTeaO, plus vendors, giveaways, children’s activities, music, and a short program. Volunteer leaders will also be recognized before teams head to their project sites.

10 a.m.–noon — Projects
Teams fan out to schools, nonprofits, and community spaces. Projects include crafting, painting, landscaping, building and installation, donation drives, organization, cleaning, and more. Sign up ahead of time on the Love Midland website and choose a project before Saturday, as spots fill quickly.

Afternoon — Local perks
Keep your volunteer wristband on. Participating businesses will offer volunteers discounts for the rest of the day.

Go deeper: Serve Day is just one part of Love Midland’s work. The group’s mission is to love the city “by seeking social, economic, and spiritual flourishing for all people through the demonstration of Christ’s Love.” Love Midland connects volunteers with community needs year-round, with ongoing opportunities posted and updated on its website as partner organizations identify projects.
