What to watch: The Julia Child: A Recipe for Life exhibit will be on display at Centennial Library through Jan. 9, 2027, and with it the library has planned a series of coordinating events. Previous events included a screening of Julie and Julia and crafting food-like products out of clay, and more events are to come. Throughout the duration of the exhibit the library has a ‘community cookbook’ where all who visit the exhibit have the chance to share their favorite recipes with the rest of Midland.

The exhibit follows Julia Child from her discovery of French cooking through her career and the creation of The Art of French Cooking. The displays include a room staged like a fancy French restaurant, a full-scale version of her kitchen with an old-fashioned camera that puts you on screen, fake recipe replicas with aromatic pans, and a giant standing copy of the book whose pages flip by projection. The exhibit was especially fun having seen her show and knowing the general background of her fame. It is definitely worth a 15 minutes stop if you’re planning a trip to the library anyway for the upcoming elections, a new book, or just an excuse to find a new fun recipe at this new exhibit.
