Another constable deputy request heads to commissioners
What to watch: The Midland County Commissioners Court will meet on Tuesday, Feb. 17, to consider adding a deputy constable for Precinct 3, designate alternate courtrooms in the future Cobos Courthouse Annex, and review the Horseshoe Arena FY 2025 financial report.
Key points:
- Courthouse annex: The court will consider formally designating courtrooms inside the Judge David M. Cobos Midland County Courthouse Annex as alternate courtrooms for district courts, county courts at law, and county court. The 55,000-square-foot annex, funded entirely with cash and expected to open in September, will house Justice of the Peace courts, constables, warrant officers, and the medical examiner’s office.
- Horseshoe Arena: The court will review and acknowledge the Horseshoe Arena’s FY 2025 income statement. The facility hosted 231 events across 475 event days and drew more than 214,000 attendees. Realized revenue totaled just under $847,000.
Leadership estimates the facility could have generated an additional $415,000 if not for county-granted fee rebates and 46 closure days associated with roof-replacement construction. The Pavilion is currently booked most weekends through mid-2027.
- Deputy constable: The court will consider Precinct 3 Constable Jerry Cook’s request to add a deputy constable, a move that comes two weeks after commissioners approved reinstating a deputy for Precinct 4 Constable Jamie Hall.
