What to watch: The state-championship BBQ event, Cookin for Calboy 2025, fires up Friday, Nov. 14, and Saturday, Nov. 15. As part of the Champions Barbecue Alliance tour, the event brings together top pitmasters to compete in brisket, chicken, pork ribs, and other categories for a 100% payout.

Why it matters: Cookin for Calboy goes beyond the smoke and spice, providing support to families who face rare medical challenges. Founded in 2023, the cookoff was created to raise awareness and support for children diagnosed with Aicardi-Goutières Syndrome (AGS). Specifically, four-year-old Callahan “Calboy,” who lives with AGS type 7, a rare genetic disorder.

The big picture: The event, held at the American Legion Post, 501 Veterans Airpark, opens Friday at noon as teams arrive and fire up their pits, and runs until 8 p.m. on Saturday. Visitors on Friday and Saturday can expect more than good eats. The event features a silent auction, BBQ sampling, a fire truck tour, and community fun for all ages.
