What happened: Midland’s Eastern Little League’s All-Star team heads to the Sectional Tournament in Pecos after winning the District championship, giving the league its first district title in more than 30 years.

The big picture: After falling into the loser’s bracket in the second round of the district tournament, the team responded by winning five straight elimination games to capture the district title. According to the league, the championship run featured strong pitching and solid defense, with every player contributing.

What’s next: Eastern will open play in the Sectional Tournament in Pecos on Saturday, June 27, at 5:45 p.m. against the winner between Lubbock Western and Greenwood, who head off Friday at 5:45 p.m. The winner in Pecos will continue on to the Texas state tournament, followed by the Southwest Region Tournament. The regional champion earns a berth in the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
