What happened: Greenwood dropped a close district matchup to Fort Stockton, 50–48, on Thursday, Jan. 22. The loss moved Greenwood to 13–13 overall and 3–2 in district play, while Fort Stockton improved to 15–14 overall and 4–1 in district. Bella Rivas led Greenwood with 15 points in the narrow defeat.

The big picture: Greenwood trailed 15–12 after the first quarter, but the Rangerettes responded in the second and cut into the deficit. Fort Stockton held a slim 27–25 lead at halftime. The teams continued to trade baskets after the break. Greenwood stayed within one at the end of the third quarter, trailing 35–34. In the fourth quarter, the Rangerettes battled down to the final possession. However, Fort Stockton held on late and escaped with the two-point win.
