Harvesting Hope Fall Market spotlights aphasia awareness
What to watch: The Harvesting Hope Fall Market returns Thursday, Oct. 16. Guests are invited to “Sip & Shop for a Cause,”enjoy a glass of wine, live music, and browse goods made by members of the Aphasia Center of West Texas.
Why it matters: Every item sold supports individuals living with aphasia, a communication disorder often caused by stroke or brain injury. Aphasia affects a person’s expression and understanding of language. The Aphasia Center provides programs in woodworking, cooking, gardening, and singing for members and their families. Through these programs, center members can continue to connect and create goods that, through this market, support them.
The big picture: This annual market shines a light on the creativity and resiliency of the center members. Visitors will find pressed flower art made from the center’s garden, seasonal wood décor, homemade jams, children’s craft kits, and visual recipe books. Thanks to the Palette Club of Midland, members also crafted gift cards, bookmarks, and other keepsakes.
Go deeper: The market runs from 4 to 7 p.m. at 5214 Thomason Drive, and admission is free. All are welcome to sip, shop, and support the individuals who remind us that creativity knows no limits.
