What to watch: Looking for an excuse to get outside while helping a shelter animal? Grand Companions and Sibley Nature Center are partnering for Hike with a Homeless Pet on Thursday, Aug. 6, giving residents the chance to walk adoptable dogs and cats along Sibley’s trails. The free event runs from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Sibley Nature Center, 1307 E. Wadley Ave. No registration is required.

The big picture: Held on the first Thursday of each month, Hike with a Homeless Pet gives shelter animals a break from the kennel while helping them socialize and meet potential adopters.

Grand Companions brings adoptable pets to Sibley Nature Center, where visitors can spend time walking them, getting to know their personalities and, if they find the right fit, begin the adoption process. This month’s featured animals include Clover, Butterfly, Vaquero, Aldwell, Ocelot and Quokka.
