What to know: Looking for a fun way to get outside with your family and your dog? The Hot Dog Run: Fast & Furriest 5K and 1-mile race returns Saturday, May 2, at Midland College near the Allison Fine Arts Building. The race supports the Midland Humane Coalition, raising funds to help homeless pets find permanent homes.

The big picture: Race day begins at 7:30 a.m. with registration and packet pickup. The 5K starts at 8:30 a.m., followed by the 1-mile at 8:35 a.m. The course loops around Midland College, with hydration stations every half mile for both runners and pets. Participants can run, walk, or bring strollers. Dogs are welcome but must remain on a leash.

What’s next: Registration costs $35 for the 5K and $25 for the 1-mile, and participants do not need a pet to join. Registration is open now and stays open through race day. Participants receive a finisher medal, race bib, swag bag, and access to a vendor market. Free breakfast and post-race refreshments will also be available.

Awards begin at 9 a.m, followed by a pet costume contest at 9:30 a.m. Packet pickup is available Friday, May 1,  from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Midland Athletic Company or race morning on-site.
