Lady Rebel early lead slips away in overtime loss to Frenship

What happened: Legacy ran headlong into one of the district’s toughest teams and nearly pulled off a statement win, falling 45–42 to Frenship in overtime Friday, Jan. 20. The Lady Rebels built an early double-digit lead and held off repeated pushes from the district’s unbeaten leader before the game ultimately swung in overtime.
The loss moved Legacy to 20–10 overall and 4–3 in district play. Frenship improved to 23–8 overall and remained perfect in district at 6–0.
The big picture: Legacy set the tone early. The Lady Rebels jumped out to a 17–7 lead in the first quarter and held the Lady Tigers scoreless in the second, extending their advantage to 23–7 by halftime.
Frenship responded after the break. The Tigers closed the gap in the third quarter, scoring 23 points to the Lady Rebels’ seven, tying the game at 30–30 heading into the fourth. Neither team was able to create separation in the fourth. Regulation ended in a 42–42 tie, sending the district matchup to overtime.
In the extra period, Frenship managed the final possessions and edged ahead for the win.
What’s next: Legacy will travel to face San Angelo Central (21–9 overall, 3–3 district) on Tuesday, Feb. 3. The district matchup is scheduled for 6 p.m. in San Angelo.
