The Midland Legacy football team added another accolade to the program’s successful history with its eighth straight Bi-District Championship. The Rebels fought their way through adversity to return to the postseason with a 4-1 record and second-place finish in District 2-6A competition.

LHS earned its first win of the year against Abilene in Week Four. Head Coach Clint Hartman and company turned to sophomore quarterback JP Reyes following senior Jaden Rogers’ season-ending injury. The underclassman impressed in his first career start and broke the school record for most passing yards in a single game. Reyes tossed for 422 yards, six touchdowns, and an 82.6% completion percentage in the 62-42 victory.

The Rebs opened District 2-6A play with a 42-36 win over San Angelo Central. McKenzie Rogers and Aiden Serrano both garnered over 100 yards, respectively. Rogers rushed for 118 yards, averaging 6.2 yards per carry. Serrano added 130 yards and two touchdowns through the air in the victory.

Midland Legacy also recorded wins over two of its biggest rivals. LHS traveled to Ratliff Stadium and knocked off Permian, 49-38. The Rebels also took down the crosstown Bulldogs for the eighth season in a row with the 28-7 victory. The Tall City team wrapped up the regular season with its highest scoring output of the year against Odessa High, 75-22. Legacy finished only behind Frenship in the league standings and punched its ticket to the postseason.

Several Rebels also earned All-District honors. McKenzie Rogers, Serrano, Kayden Iglesias, Darren Wilson, Dylan Roemisch, Jason Maltos, Brylon Zeno, DJ Brock, and Nic Moore were named to the 1st Team. Dylan Walters, Humberto Hernandez, Drew Nisius, Jason Williams, Oli Oladiran, and Trey Jefferson were tabbed to the 2nd Team. Gabe Rios, Sean Hill, Tristan Mayes, Alex Fuentes, Khalil Harvey, and Jaden Hill earned a spot with the Honorable Mention group.

Midland Legacy started the postseason with a battle against El Paso Franklin in the first round. The Rebels claimed their eighth Bi-District Championship in a row with the 56-14 victory. Reyes threw for 338 yards and four touchdowns in the victory. The one-two punch of Serrano and Caden Ellis notched a combined 267 receiving yards. Serrano caught two touchdowns and 143 yards. Ellis recorded another two scores and 124 yards. LHS’ season came to an end in the Area round the following week against Euless Trinity. Coach Hartman and his team closed the year with a 6-6 overall record.

Reyes continued to lead the Rebels’ offense under center for the rest of the season. The sophomore recorded 27 touchdowns, 2,229 passing yards, and close to a 65% completion percentage in 11 games played. The signal caller also earned the title of “District 2-6A Offensive Newcomer of the Year” with his performance in his first season. Serrano caught 14 of Reyes’ passes and broke the program record for most career receptions in Rebels history in his final season. The UTPB signee also notched 11 TDs on the ground.

Cole Neatherlin anchored the Rebs on the defensive side of the ball. The senior notched an average of 9.3 tackles per game with a team-leading 11 tackles for loss and three sacks on the season. The senior was named the district Defensive MVP and was rewarded with a spot on the Texas 6A Honorable Mention All-State team.

A couple of lineman also earned praise for their impressive seasons. Terry Ojopagogo earned district Defensive Lineman of the Year honors. Peyton Arthur collected the title of “Co-Offensive Lineman of the Year” and added a Texas 6A Honorable Mention All-State nod with Neatherlin and Maltos.

Midland Legacy starts the 2025 season on the road against Allen on August 29th. Kickoff is set for 7:00 pm.
