What happened: Midland Lee rebounded from last week’s loss to Austin Westlake with a resounding win over the Somerset Academy Losee Lions from Las Vegas, Nevada. The Rebels scored on each of their first four possessions Friday, building a 30-0 first-quarter lead before Somerset had even recorded a first down.

Lee kept pouring it on, taking a 37-0 lead into halftime and stretching it to 61-0 before Somerset broke up the shutout with a 65-yard touchdown pass on the final play. The 61-6 win moved the Rebels to 4-2 and dropped the Lions to 1-6. Lee is now ranked No. 78 in Texas and No. 44 among UIL 6A teams.

The big picture: Senior quarterback JP Reyes tore through the Somerset secondary in the first half, throwing five touchdown passes as Lee built its 37-point halftime lead. Junior defensive back Maddox Marquez hauled in two 50-yard scores, while junior wide receiver Ja’braylen Anders caught three touchdowns from 25, 55, and 12 yards out.

Lee’s offense slowed only slightly after halftime. Sophomore quarterback Santi Mendoza connected with sophomore running back Ryder Roberts for a 7-yard touchdown, then broke free for a 34-yard rushing score. Junior running back Ryan Rogers added a 3-yard touchdown run, while senior kicker Nic Pelcastre kicked a 35-yard field goal.
