What to know: The UIL State Track and Field Meet returns to Austin on May 14-16, with Legacy and Greenwood sending athletes to compete on Texas’ biggest stage. Greenwood will compete Thursday during the 4A sessions, while Legacy will compete Saturday during the 6A sessions. Field events and the 3200 meters begin at 9 a.m. each day, with running finals scheduled for 5 p.m.

The big picture: Legacy enters the state meet with one of the top relay teams in Texas and the country. The Rebels’ boys 4×200 relay team of Masseye Diop, Weldon Cooks, Nicalus Moore, and Caden Ellis captured the regional championship in a meet-record 1:24.18, one of the fastest times in Texas this season.

The Rebels also have field-event qualifiers, including Madison Gonzales (44-04.00) and Ibunkun Subair (42-05.50) in girls shot put, and Dylan Walters (57-05.25) in boys shot put.

Greenwood’s Lady Rangers’ 4×200 relay team of Ava McIntyre, Kealani Weeks, Addyson Adame, and Sidnee Click qualified for state after running 1:41.87 this season. The boys’ 4×400 relay team of Dylan Payton, Andrick Rodriguez, Aaron Carillo, and Kasen Brooks qualified with a season-best 3:19.65. Payton also qualified in both the 300-meter hurdles and long jump after posting season-best marks of 37.87 and 22-07.00.
