Editor’s note: Midland College releases Board of Trustees meeting minutes in the agenda packet for the following meeting. As a result, The Permian Press received the July 21 minutes in the Aug. 18 meeting agenda.

What happened: Midland College’s Board of Trustees met in special session on Tuesday, July 21, voting to order a November trustee election for four of its nine seats. Trustees also approved a $196,000 classroom phone system that would put emergency communication access in every classroom.

Key points:

  • November trustee election: The board ordered a general election for Nov. 3 for Board of Trustees Places 3, 7, 8, and 9, four of the board’s nine seats. Jacobe Kendrick holds the Place 3 spot after the board appointed him in March to fill the unexpired Place 3 term previously held by Larry Lawrence. Adrian Carrasco holds the Place 7 seat, Scott Lynch holds the Place 8 seat, and Scott Kidwell holds the Place 9 seat.

Carrasco, Lynch, and Kidwell all joined the board in 2020. Midland College trustees hold six-year terms.

  • Classroom phone system: The board approved a $196,000 contract to supply hardware, software, telephones, and professional services for 250 classroom telephones intended to give every classroom direct access to emergency communication services. The college said the project addresses state requirements regarding classroom access to emergency communications. Funding will come from existing budgets.
