What happened: Midland Classical Academy’s Barron Tate brought home the gold after winning the TAPPS 4A state championship in discus with a throw of 172-09. He not only surpassed the runner-up by a whopping 5.39 meters (about 17 feet 8 inches) but had the longest throw across the entire TAPPS state meet regardless of division.

The big picture: Austin Cook added another medal for the Knights, finishing third in the 1600 meters with a time of 4:35.58. Locke Bundy ran 10:32.03 in the 3200 meters, placing eighth, while Tate also placed seventh in shot put with a mark of 46-10.5.
