What happened: Midland Classical fell 52-42 to Odessa’s Compass Academy (15-0 overall) on Tuesday, Dec. 30. The loss moved the Knights to 8-14 overall. Judah Schulz and Bogdan Corzine led Midland Classical with 10 points each, while Liam Gahr led Compass with 11 points.

The big picture: Midland Classical took an 11-9 lead into the second quarter after a 3-pointer in the final seven seconds of the first. Compass Academy turned the game in the second quarter, outscoring MCA 22-9 to build a 31-20 halftime lead. MCA responded after the break by outscoring Compass 15-7 in the third quarter, cutting the deficit to 38-35 and briefly taking the lead late in the period. Compass reasserted control in the fourth, outscoring MCA 14-7 to close out the win.
