What happened: Midland Classical dropped a 46–42 home district game to Trinity Christian on Friday, Jan. 16. The loss moved the Knights to 10–16 overall and 2–2 in district play, while TCA moved to 5–7 overall and 1–0 in district. Coy Nicholas led MCA with 13 points.

The big picture: Midland Classical controlled the game through three quarters. The Knights carried a 28–17 lead into halftime behind Nicholas’ scoring and remained in front 38–28 entering the fourth. The momentum shifted quickly in the final period. Trinity Christian opened the quarter with an 8–0 run to pull within two at 38–36. Midland Classical briefly steadied itself with baskets from Judah Schulz and James Clark, pushing the lead back to 42–36.

Those proved to be the Knights’ final points. Trinity Christian closed the game on a 10–0 run to take the lead late. Jonathan Overholt gave TCA its first lead of the night with a contested scoop shot in the lane with 1:10 remaining. Midland Classical had opportunities to respond but came up empty on its final possessions. Dawson Dunn generated an open look from three with seven seconds left, but the attempt missed long as Trinity Christian held on for the road win.
