Lady Knights go 1-2 at Denver City Shootout, 8-5 overall
What happened: Midland Classical competed in the Denver City Shootout from Thursday, Dec. 4, through Saturday, Dec. 6, finishing 1-2 with a win over Monahans (4-6 overall) and losses to Littlefield (8-5 overall) and Andrews (3-8 overall). The Lady Knights moved to 8-5 overall after the weekend.
Mariah Davis led the weekend with standout performances, including a 38-point opener and a 27-point finish. She consistently paced the Lady Knights’ scoring across all three games.
The big picture:
- Game 1: Midland Classical 62, Monahans 51
Midland Classical opened the tournament with a strong offensive showing. Mariah Davis scored 38 points, including seven 3-pointers. The Lady Knights scored 23 points in the first quarter to set the tone.
- Game 2: Littlefield 55, Midland Classical 33
On Friday, Mariah Davis led the scoring once again with 13 points.
- Game 3: Andrews 56, Midland Classical 50
On Saturday, Midland Classical played Andrews tight from start to finish. The game was tied 11-11 after the first quarter, and the Lady Knights took a 32-25 lead into halftime. Andrews edged ahead 38-36 after the third and held on for the final. Mariah Davis scored 27 points with three 3-pointers and a perfect performance at the free throw line.
