Mustangs roll past Regents in basketball playoff opener

What happened: The Midland Christian Mustangs earned a 63–49 playoff road win over Austin Regents on Tuesday, Feb. 17. The victory moves Midland Christian to 27–10 overall after finishing second in district at 9–3. Austin Regents ends the night at 21–15 overall after placing fourth in its district.
The big picture: Midland Christian took a 16–10 lead after the first quarter. The Mustangs continued to build separation in the second quarter, outscoring Regents 17–14 to carry a 33–24 advantage into halftime.
After the break, the Mustangs held Regents to five points in the third quarter while scoring 17 of their own to push the lead to 50–29. Austin Regents outscored Midland Christian 20–13 in the fourth, but the Mustangs maintained control to close out the 14-point playoff win.
What’s next: Midland Christian will advance to the next round of the playoffs and will play Grace Prep on either Friday, Feb. 20, or Saturday, Feb. 21, pending the official bracket release.
