What happened: Midland Christian overcame a slow start and earned a 28–12 playoff win over Brook Hill on Friday, Nov. 14. The Guards opened the first quarter with two field goals and held a 6–0 halftime lead. However, the Mustangs took control after the break and scored 28 straight points. Brook Hill added a late touchdown, but the game was already out of reach.

Go deeper: Quarterback Jaxon Franco led the turnaround with an efficient second half. He finished 23-of-37 for 285 yards and three touchdowns. Additionally, Midland Christian added 141 rushing yards on 28 carries, which kept the offense steady and balanced. Jarret Stockstill, Jaxon Jones, and Caleb Cruz each caught a touchdown.

Meanwhile, Brody Todd added a rushing score. Defensively, the Mustangs made key adjustments. They tightened coverage and limited explosive plays. They also controlled the line of scrimmage in the final two quarters. As a result, their discipline and energy kept Brook Hill off the field and gave the offense repeated chances.

The big picture: The win sends Midland Christian deeper into the postseason. It also shows how well they respond under pressure. Furthermore, their second-half execution on both sides of the ball displayed confidence and maturity. Those traits continue to define this team. The Mustangs are now 8-3 overall.

What’s next: Midland Christian will face Austin Regents on Friday, Nov. 21, at 1 p.m. in San Angelo. Regents enters the matchup at 11–0 after winning its district at 6–0 and is the No. 54 team in the state. They also outscored opponents 507–178 this season, giving them one of the strongest résumés in TAPPS. Even so, Midland Christian’s balance on offense and their strong finish against Brook Hill show they are ready for a challenge.
