What happened: The Midland Christian Mustangs overcame a slow start to earn a 36–30 overtime win at Lubbock Trinity on Friday, Nov. 7. The victory secured the number two seed in TAPPS Division II District 1, finishing just behind Fort Worth All Saints.

After trailing 7-19 at halftime, the Mustangs outscored Trinity 29–11 in the second half. It was a dramatic way to close the regular season. Midland Christian finished at 7-3 overall and 4-1 in district play.

Later, Drew Buckingham drilled a 41-yard field goal as time expired to send the game to overtime. Trinity had taken a 30–27 lead with 30 seconds left, but the Mustangs answered immediately with a determined two-minute drive.

In overtime, Franco connected with Jaxon Jones for the game-winning touchdown, sealing the comeback and firing up the Mustang crowd. Franco finished 23-of-36 passing for 191 yards and two touchdowns. Meanwhile, Brody Todd rushed 18 times for 76 yards and two scores. Caleb Cruz added 96 rushing yards and one touchdown. In the air, Jarrett Stockstill had four catches for 28 yards and a touchdown, while Payton Ross added 51 receiving yards.

What’s next: Midland Christian will host Bullard’s Brook Hill (7-3 overall, 4-2 in district play) in the playoffs on Friday, Nov. 14, at 3 p.m. The Mustangs will now aim to carry their second-half surge and district momentum into the postseason.
