What happened: The Midland Christian Lady Mustangs went 2-3 at the Lions Club Tournament in Glen Rose from Thursday, Dec. 4, through Saturday, Dec. 6, moving their overall record to 6-4. They earned wins over Bushland (7-5 overall) and Fort Worth’s Nolan Catholic (4-11 overall), while dropping games to Emory’s Rains (13-2 overall), Amarillo’s Palo Duro (13-2 overall), and Midlothian Heritage (12-4 overall).

Junior power forward and guard Jordyn Hamilton earned an All-Tournament honor. With seven of the ten teams in the field ranked, the Lady Mustangs faced strong competition throughout the weekend. The weekend scoring leaders included Jordan Stokes, who finished with 58 total points, Lauren Alvizo, who scored 47 points, and Selah Fox, who followed with 43.

The big picture: 

  • Game 1: Midland Christian 38, Bushland 37
    The opener in Bushland stayed close throughout the game. Jordan Stokes scored 14 points, Selah Fox and Lauren Alvizo each added 10 points, and both hit key 3-pointers in the fourth quarter to shift the momentum.
  • Game 2: Midland Christian 55, Nolan Catholic 28
    Later that day, the Lady Mustangs established control early and built a 34-9 halftime lead. Lauren Alvizo led with 14 points, while Jordan Stokes scored 13 and Selah Fox added 10.
  • Game 3: Rains 46, Midland Christian 45
    On Friday, Midland Christian led 12-9 after the first quarter. However, Rains edged ahead 23-22 at halftime and held a 33-32 lead after the third. Jordan Stokes and Selah Fox each scored 14 points.
  • Game 4: Palo Duro 44, Midland Christian 37
    That evening, Lauren Alvizo scored 13 points, followed by Jordan Stokes with 11.
  • Game 5: Midlothian Heritage 38, Midland Christian 28
    In the final game of the tournament, both teams reached halftime tied at 19-19, but Midlothian Heritage pulled away late.
