What happened: Midland Christian boys golf captured the TAPPS 5A State Championship on Tuesday, May 19, in Glen Rose, bringing home the program’s first state title since 2017. The Mustangs finished with a two-round score of 574 at Squaw Valley Golf Course, beating Fort Worth All Saints by 10 strokes.

Junior Bridger Wilson also made program history, becoming Midland Christian’s first individual boys golf state champion after shooting 8-under-par across two rounds. Wilson led the way with back-to-back rounds of 68, finishing at 136 overall to claim the individual state title.

The big picture: Senior and Midland College signee Mason Leary tied for ninth with a 144 (73-71) to earn TAPPS 5A All-State honors. Senior Brody McHugh finished at 146 (73-73), junior Jackson Griffin followed with a 148 (73-75), and senior Ethan Newson finished with a 157 (81-76).

On the girls’ side, sophomore Addi Wright also earned TAPPS 5A All-State honors after finishing inside the top 10 with a 160 total (83-77).
