What happened: Midland High senior Gilbert Lujan Jr. is headed to the Class 6A state tournament after finishing third overall at the Region I-6A Championship and qualifying as the No. 2 individual medalist to advance, shooting a two-day 73-70—143 at Tangle Ridge Golf Club.

The big picture: Lujan first won the District 2-6A individual title with a 149 (77-72) at Quicksand Golf Course, helping the Bulldogs secure the team district championship (635). He carried that momentum into regionals, improving to a 143 total and earning one of the top individual qualifying spots for state. He also picked up a win earlier this season at the Tall City Invitational, opening with a 68.

What’s next: Lujan will compete at the UIL Class 6A State Tournament on April 27–28, representing Midland on one of the biggest stages in Texas high school golf.
