Midland Cheetahs opens youth summer track registration
What to know: Families looking for a way to keep kids active this summer have a new option on the track. The Midland Cheetahs Youth Summer Track Club has opened registration for its 2026 season, offering instruction and competition opportunities for athletes ages 2 to 18.
Why it matters: The club gives younger children an early introduction to track and field and provides extra summer training for junior high and high school athletes.
The big picture: The program includes 10 weeks of summer training beginning May 22 at Greenwood High School. Practices are held in the evenings. Families can choose from several membership options. The Basic Membership costs $149 and includes 10 weeks of practice plus entry into the club’s end-of-season meet July 24–25 in Midland. That option is open to athletes ages 2 to 18, including Tiny Tots ages 6 and younger.
Select and Full memberships are available for athletes ages 7 to 18. Those options follow the same training schedule but also allow athletes to compete in additional meets throughout the summer, including events in Garden City, Greenwood, Odessa, and Midland.
Midland will also host the TAAF State Qualifier Meet on July 17–18. Athletes who qualify there can advance to the TAAF Games of Texas State Track Meet, scheduled for July 30 through Aug. 2 in College Station.
Go deeper: Practice times vary by membership level. Basic athletes practice Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7 to 8 p.m. Select and Full athletes practice Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The club allows flexible attendance, which means athletes do not have to attend every practice.
Families should know that Select and Full memberships require a separate AAU membership, which costs $24 and is paid directly to the Amateur Athletic Union. Parents are also responsible for transportation to meets, though sponsorship funding may be available for athletes who qualify for state.
