What happened: Midland Christian football came up short in its season opener, falling 17-7 at home to Class 4A power Graham on Friday. The Mustangs controlled the game defensively for three quarters, keeping the Steers off the scoreboard.

Quarterback Jaxon Franco put MCS ahead in the second quarter with a 75-yard touchdown strike to Caleb Cruz. But Graham broke through in the fourth, scoring 17 unanswered to spoil the debut of new head coach Pil Dawson.

Midland Christian (0-1) will look to regroup on Sept. 5 when it travels to face Dallas Bishop Lynch.
