What to watch: Midland County will host a free recycling event on Saturday, July 25, from 8-10 a.m., giving residents an opportunity to safely dispose of used tires, motor oil, and batteries. The collection will take place at the Midland County Road and Bridge Department, 2435 E. Highway 80.
The big picture: The county hosts the events to provide a convenient way to recycle materials that can harm the environment if improperly discarded while helping reduce illegal dumping. During its most recent collection event, the county said in a press release that residents recycled or safely disposed of 3,650 tires, 550 gallons of used motor oil, 60 batteries, 3 tons of metal, 6.27 tons of trash, and 57 pounds of unused prescription medications.
Since the program began, Midland County residents have recycled or properly disposed of 24,949 tires, 2,695 gallons of used motor oil, 262 batteries, more than 19 tons of trash and metal, and 113 pounds of unused prescription medications.
