Police data shows 4% drop in Midland’s most serious crimes
What happened: The Midland Police Department reports a 4% drop in the city’s most serious “Part 1” crimes through the first half of 2025.
Why it matters: Six of the seven Part 1 crime categories declined through June. Robbery was the only exception, rising from 16 to 20 cases. The sharpest drops came in homicide, which fell from five cases to zero, and motor vehicle theft, which decreased 7.7% from 260 to 240.
The big picture: The decline puts Midland on pace to finish below 2024 crime levels, when MPD reported a 10% drop in serious crimes. That year marked the city’s lowest crime total since at least 2021.
