What happened: Midland High came up just short Saturday night, Oct. 25, falling 27-34 to San Angelo Central on the road. The Bulldogs battled wire to wire, keeping pace with a strong Bobcat squad and trading scores until the final quarter. The loss moved Midland to 2–6 overall and 1-2 in district play as they continue to push toward playoff contention.

Go deeper: Midland jumped out to a 17–7 lead in the second quarter after quarterback Holt Howard broke free for an 18-yard touchdown run. San Angelo Central answered with a pair of scores to even the game before halftime, and the two teams traded possessions through a tense third quarter that ended tied 24–24.

The Bobcats pulled ahead in the final minutes with a 39-yard field goal, and although Midland cut the deficit with a late 37-yard kick of its own, the ensuing onside attempt came up short. The Bulldogs’ defense held firm for most of the night, limiting Central’s big-play opportunities and forcing several long-yardage situations, but a late surge by the Bobcats proved to be the difference.

What’s next: Midland returns home Friday, Oct. 31, to face crosstown rival Legacy (3-5 overall, 2-1 in district). Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m., with a packed house expected for one of West Texas’s most electric matchups.
