What happened: A woman and her child were at home when two suspects broke in Tuesday morning and stole 17 rifles, prompting an aggravated robbery investigation by Midland Police. The suspects are still at large. Police have been unable to identify the suspects or recover the weapons.

Go deeper: Officers responded around 8:45 a.m. on July 8 to reports of a burglary in progress in the 3500 block of Black Wolf Trail. The homeowner, who was at work, saw the break-in happening live through his home security cameras.

Inside the home, the homeowner’s wife heard a noise, opened a bedroom door, and saw one suspect outside the window and another already inside the home, pointing a rifle in her direction. She quickly shut the door and hid in a closet with the couple’s child.

The suspects fled the scene with 17 rifles from the bedroom. Surveillance footage showed them arriving and leaving in a grey Ford Explorer. The vehicle was reported stolen earlier that morning at 1:05 a.m. from the 6800 block of Island Circle. Police later found the Explorer abandoned nearby, but the firearms were missing. The investigation is ongoing.
