What happened: Midland’s streets were temporarily flooded  yesterday when a large storm parked over most of Midland deposited between a trace south of Midland to over 2.5 inches in North Midland.  The rain started about 10:15am and was mostly over by 11:30am.  Midland Airpark recorded 1.64 inches yesterday and Midland International 0.4 inches.

The big picture: The past 3 days have brought much needed rain to the Midland area.  After getting sideswiped by a major cell on Tuesday night, Wednesday night brought a more expected thunderstorm followed by the abnormal morning rain dump Thursday.  The three days rain totals ranged from 0.78 inches at MAF airport, 1.95 inches at Air Park, and between local rain gauges of 1 to 3.25 inches.

While the major rain yesterday of 1.64 inches was a large storm, it was not close to the highs Midland has seen the past 15 years.   According to the NOAA records Midland received 3.47 and 3.2 inches respectively on 9/28/12 and 6/27/21.
