What happened: Midland softball dominated with a 13-0 win over Legacy in a cross-town matchup on Friday, April 10. Midland, now 29-3 overall and 8-0 in district, completed the sweep after a 10-0 win in the previous meeting.
The big picture: The game followed the familiar pattern for Midland of early control that quickly turned into a runaway. Midland led 2-0 after the first inning, then added three more in the second to make it 5-0. By the third, the lead had grown to 9-0 before closing it out at 13-0 in the fourth inning by run rule.
The run rule ends the game early when a team leads by a set number of runs after a certain inning, preventing extended blowouts. In this case, Midland’s 13 runs through four innings secured the automatic win.
Go deeper: Through 32 games, Midland is averaging 11.5 runs per game while allowing just 3, resulting in an average margin of victory of +9. In district play, they averaged 15 runs per game and allowed just 3, a 12-run margin.
Legacy, now 10-12 overall and 0-4 in district, is averaging 6 runs per game while allowing 7 on the season. In district play, the Lady Rebels are allowing 11 runs per game while scoring 4, a 7-run gap against district opponents.
What’s next: Midland has two district games remaining before the playoffs, with a chance to carry an undefeated district record and strong momentum into the postseason. For Legacy, the final game of the season this weekend is one last opportunity to compete and gain experience against district opponents.
