Two Midland teams move on in girls soccer playoffs
What happened: Midland High and Greenwood girls soccer teams are moving on to the regional semifinals after second-round playoff wins, while Legacy’s hard-played season came to an end Tuesday, March 24, against a No. 7 Texas-ranked team.
The big picture: Midland High defeated Weatherford 3-1 on Tuesday, March 24, to advance. The Lady Bulldogs, now 12-9-2, will face No. 17 Texas-ranked Denton Guyer (19-3-1) in the regional semifinals on Friday, March 27.
Greenwood advanced with a 2-1 win over Borger. The Rangerettes, now 17-2-6, will face Brownwood (18-3-1) on Thursday, March 26, in the regional semifinals.
Legacy’s playoff run ended with a 6-1 loss to No. 7 Mansfield Lake Ridge. The Lady Rebels reached the second round after a historic first-round win, marking the program’s first playoff victory.
Go deeper: Midland High opened the playoffs with a 1-0 win over Pebble Hills behind a goal from Adeline Hahn. Greenwood dominated its first-round matchup with a 9-1 win over El Paso Harmony, led by Emily Jones with six goals and Addy Adame with three.
Legacy opened the playoffs with a 3-2 win over El Paso Franklin, with goals by Camryn VanDennieuwenhof, Macy Tolin, and Litzy Lujan. Lujan scored the game-winner in overtime.
Midland High’s boys team also reached the playoffs but lost 4-0 to El Paso Coronado in the opening round.
