What to watch: For those staying home for Thanksgiving and in need of a warm meal and friendly company, these local spots are opening their doors on Thursday, Nov. 27, to provide holiday meals. The Detour Bar, Grace Lutheran Church, VFW Post 4149, and Addie’s Diner are each offering a welcoming place to share a plate and enjoy fellowship.

The big picture: Thanksgiving can feel quieter for those without nearby family, but these local hosts aim to make sure no one spends the holiday alone. Each location offers its own version of community hospitality, from potluck tables to full open meals.

  • Grace Lutheran Church: The church hosts a Thanksgiving worship service at 10 a.m., followed by a shared potluck meal. This gathering especially welcomes those spending the holiday without nearby family. Attendees are invited to bring a favorite dish.
  • VFW Post 4149: The post will open at noon and serve Thanksgiving dinner at 3 p.m. Guests are invited to bring a dish for the potluck table. Enjoy this holiday surrounded by a strong community of neighbors and veterans.
  • Addie’s Diner: The diner serves its annual Thanksgiving meal from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., or until supplies run out. Everyone is welcome, and donations are appreciated but not necessary. Families and children are encouraged to join for a warm meal and a welcoming atmosphere.
  • The Detour Bar: The bar opens at 11 a.m. and serves Thanksgiving dinner at 4:30 p.m. Guests can enjoy extended happy hour from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. along with $6 drink specials. For more details, visit the Detour Bar Facebook page.
