What happened: Midland High opened the Bev Ball Tournament with a perfect 3-0 record in Abilene. The Lady Bulldogs rolled through pool play without dropping a set, defeating Holliday (25-7, 25-18), Dallas Hillcrest (25-15, 25-15), and Plainview (25-14, 25-16).

Setter Zaylie King directed the offense with 38 assists and eight aces across the three matches. Senior Mabry Scharbauer paced the defense with 26 digs, while sophomore Victoria Azarov delivered 21 kills and 21 digs. Senior Lillian Earl contributed a strong all-around effort with 18 kills, 16 digs, and 27 assists, and LaneyKate Johnston led the front line with seven blocks.

Midland High (3-1) advances to the Gold Bracket and will face former district rival Abilene High at 8 a.m. Saturday.
