What happened: Midland High volleyball opened its season with a five-set thriller but came up short against Lubbock-Cooper Liberty. The Lady Bulldogs dropped the match 27-25, 18-25, 17-25, 25-23, 15-10.

Senior Lillian Earl led the way with a triple-double, posting 14 kills, 13 digs, and 19 assists. Sophomore Victoria Azarov added 15 kills and 10 digs, while sophomore setter Zaylie King tallied 25 assists and 13 digs. Senior Mabry Scharbauer anchored the defense with a team-best 23 digs.

Midland High (0-1) turns its attention to the Bev Ball Tournament, beginning Friday against Holliday in Abilene.
