What happened: The 4th Annual Rock the Rind Tall City Triathlon returned to Midland on Saturday, July 25, giving local athletes a fun summer challenge and a competitive way to close out the summer.

Hosted by The Athletic Company, the sprint-distance race featured a 500-meter swim in the FMH Foundation Natatorium, an 11-mile bike course along Loop 250 service roads, and a 3.1-mile run through Windlands Park. Both individual and relay options were available, welcoming first-time triathletes and experienced competitors.

More than 100 athletes took part, with participants coming from Midland, Odessa, and other surrounding cities. The field included a mix of ages, with many teenage athletes, the youngest being 13. Participants brought varying experience levels, reflecting the event’s goal of making triathlon accessible and enjoyable for the whole community.

The celebration included watermelon, refreshments, event swag, and finisher medals, keeping the summer spirit going long after the final finishers crossed the line. Athletes and families gathered for a post-race swim party with fun water blow-ups.
