Rangers set for high-energy season under coach Jeff Bush
What to know: Greenwood enters the 2025–26 basketball season with confidence and a renewed sense of purpose. Led by head coach Jeff Bush, the team embraces a fast-paced, team-first identity to maximize its strengths. Last season, Greenwood finished 15–18 overall and third in the district. Despite that, the Rangers are focused on starting strong. “We want to be at our best out of the gate on November 18 when we host Levelland,” Bush said.
Go deeper: Bush describes this year’s group as “fast and tough,” a team built around energy, effort, and unity. Furthermore, five key returners bring experience and leadership, setting the tone daily in practice. In addition, seniors Colton Rauman and Austin Snodgrass step up vocally, holding teammates accountable and modeling the program’s standards.
“Their presence alone does that,” Bush said. “They’re always present and setting the standard for what we’re trying to accomplish.” A strong mix of veterans and emerging talent gives Greenwood balance and excitement heading into the season. For example, sophomore Weston Turnage, who earned a starting role after an impressive TABC Showcase, is one of several players ready to make an early impact.
Meanwhile, the coaching staff, including a new first assistant, has built chemistry quickly and brought fresh energy and ideas to both ends of the floor. Bush calls it “a work in progress,” but one filled with potential and momentum.
The big picture: This year, Greenwood focuses on accountability, relentless effort, and speed. The Rangers aim to push the tempo and pressure opponents from baseline to baseline. “We’re going to score fast and defend every inch of the 94-foot playing surface,” Bush said.
As a result, fans can expect an exciting, high-energy style of basketball built around teamwork and determination, the kind of play that makes the Rangers “fun to watch” and tough to compete against. Additionally, the team hopes its fast pace and discipline will give it an early edge in district play.
What’s next: Greenwood opens the season at home against Levelland on November 18 at 6:30 p.m., marking a promising new chapter. With veteran leadership, rising talent, and a refreshed coaching staff, the Rangers are ready to make their mark in District 3-4A. Overall, optimism is high, and the team is eager to show what it can accomplish.
