What happened: A 72-year-old woman was arrested and charged with murder after her husband was found fatally stabbed in their Midland home on the morning of July 3.

Go deeper: Midland Police responded to a suspicious medical call at 10:09 a.m. in the 3600 block of Loop 250 North. Officers found 63-year-old Humberto Aldana Fonseca with multiple stab wounds to the chest inside the home.

All individuals at the scene were family members and were taken to the Midland Police Department for questioning. Detectives identified the victim’s wife, Maria Mercedes Lago Bennett, as the primary suspect. Investigators believe she stabbed her husband in the bedroom using a kitchen knife.

Bennett was arrested and booked into the Midland County Detention Center. She is charged with murder.
