What happened: While storms brought heavy rainfall to parts of Texas last week, Midland largely missed out. Rain gauges around the city recorded less than a quarter-inch on Thursday, Oct. 1, with 0.12 inches north of Midland, 0.23 inches east of town, and 0.17 inches to the west. Midland International Airport recorded only a trace of rainfall.

The big picture: The same storm system brought significantly heavier rainfall elsewhere in Texas, including more than 6 inches in parts of the Big Country. Midland instead saw cooler temperatures, overcast skies, and occasional drizzle without the widespread rainfall that fell farther east.

What’s next: Midland can expect a mostly dry and mild start to the week before temperatures begin climbing again. The National Weather Service forecasts a high near 82 Monday, followed by 84 Tuesday, 87 Wednesday, and 86 Thursday. Rain chances remain low around Midland through midweek.
