What happened: Midland High swept crosstown rival Midland Lee in straight sets Thursday, Oct. 1. The Bulldogs won 25-19, 25-9, 25-18 to improve to 23-7 overall and remain unbeaten at 3-0 in district play. Lee fell to 17-20 overall and 0-4 in district.

The Bulldogs have now won 16 of their last 18 matches and are ranked No. 51 overall in Texas and No. 32 among UIL 6A teams.

The big picture: Lee stayed within striking distance in the opening set before Midland pulled away for a 25-19 win. The Bulldogs took control in the second, holding the Rebels to nine points to take a commanding 2-0 lead. Lee was more competitive in the third, but Midland closed out the sweep 25-18 without allowing the Rebels to force a fourth set.
