What happened: Midland High lost to Permian 42-17 Friday night at Astound Broadband Stadium. Evan Taylor scored on a 48-yard run to give the Bulldogs an early lead. Permian answered and took control. Midland added a field goal in the second quarter and a 33-yard touchdown pass in the third.

The big picture: Taylor led Permian with 171 rushing yards and three touchdowns. The Panthers improved to 9-0 overall and 3-0 in district. The win secured a share of the District 2-6A title. Midland fell to 4-4. The loss ended the Bulldogs’ four-game winning streak and 1-1 in district.  As four of the five teams in District 2 6A will make the playoffs, the next two games will be critical to MHS’ season.

What’s next: Midland travels to San Angelo Central at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30. Permian has a bye before hosting Central on Nov. 6.
