Midland County early voting runs 34% ahead of 2022 mid-terms
What to know: Midland County recorded 6,167 in-person voters during the first two days of early voting according to the Midland County Elections Office’s daily voter count. That is up 34% from the first two days of the 2022 midterm, where 4,602 voted in person, and 9% below the first two days of the 2024 presidential election, where there were 6,766.
Monday, Oct. 19, brought 3,034 voters, and Tuesday brought 3,133. The county has also received 412 ballots by mail, bringing the total to 6,579, or about 6.6% of the county’s 99,805 registered voters. At the same point, turnout stood at 5.0% in 2022 and 7.4% in 2024, according to Texas Secretary of State early voting reports.
The big picture: The first days of early voting set records in the state’s largest counties. Harris, Dallas, Tarrant, and Travis each reported more first-day voters than in 2022, with Harris and Dallas exceeding their 2024 first-day totals. Midland is ahead of every prior midterm but trailing its 2024 pace. Expanded hours during the second week of early voting, produced the county’s busiest days in 2024.
By the numbers: The Elections Office led all sites through Tuesday with 2,138 voters. Centennial Library followed with 1,741, then Fellowship Community Church with 879, The Village at Manor Park with 742, and Cogdell Learning Center with 667.
What’s next: Early voting continues through Friday, Oct. 30, with Saturday and Sunday options Oct. 24-25 and extended 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. hours at the Elections Office beginning Monday, Oct. 26.
