What happened: Construction on Zoo Midland’s Savanna project continues to move forward, with all 12 buildings across the area now in various stages of work. The administrative and service areas are nearly finished, with both sites now having operating electricity.

The big picture: The giraffe barn structure is complete, and concrete work is expected soon. The reptile, primate, and predator buildings all have their walls up. Rough plumbing is complete, and roof work is underway for the predator building. Crews are shaping the ground for the giraffe and rhino habitats so rockwork can begin this winter.

Go deeper: Infrastructure for the zoo took a big step this month. The event center interior framing is done with exterior stonework going up, bringing it close to being fully enclosed. Power has been turned on to the service area, allowing electricians to finish some its the final elements. Plumbing crews have installed all kitchen sinks and bathroom fixtures, and the parking lot for that area has been paved. The administrative area, which will serve as the nerve center for the expanded zoo, has been energized moving it one step closer to completion.

What’s next: Stay tuned to Zoo Midland’s updates as they plan to share concept images of ‘The Farm’, the next area of construction.
