What to know: Daylight saving time ends Sunday at 2 a.m. Midland residents will turn their clocks back one hour despite a new Texas law intended to end the twice-yearly time changes.

Key points:

  • When to change clocks: Clocks will move back one hour at 2 a.m. Sunday Nov. 1. Most smartphones and connected devices will adjust automatically. Other clocks should be changed before bed Saturday.
  • Earlier sunsets: Sunrise and sunset will occur about an hour earlier. Residents will have more daylight in the morning but less in the evening.
  • Texas law: Gov. Greg Abbott signed House Bill 1393 in June 2025 to keep Texas on daylight saving time year-round. The law would establish permanent “Texas Time” and eliminate seasonal clock changes. However the law cannot take effect without congressional authorization. Federal law allows states to remain on standard time year-round but prohibits permanent daylight saving time without federal approval.
  • Federal legislation: The U.S. House passed the Sunshine Protection Act in July 2026 to make daylight saving time permanent. The legislation still requires Senate approval and the president’s signature before becoming law.

What’s next: Daylight saving time returns March 14, 2027. Clocks will move forward one hour at 2 a.m.
